Of Afghan crisis and soaring Almond Prices
Of Afghan crisis and soaring Almond Prices
Given the Afghan crisis and soaring almond prices that roughly translates to Rs 1100 a kg as spelt out by Mr Garg who is in his store sharp 9.30 am when quarter of the world desires to have rum. Morning in India is night for more than quarter of the world which desists the tendency to read fine prints of blurb that is no less than laudatory curve. As Afghan would unfold into something that would be bold one needs to watch out for Kabul and Kandahar and the certainty that exists for rain car. One hopes the Afghan territory and its leadership which shows no signs of asemia don't roll out a roadmap that is curtains for peace and the unfolding peace in whatever format in the terrain is no pap. One would stay focused on Afghanistan which is not far away from a terrain named Hindustan. As tennis player Ms Naomi Osaka withdrew from French Open given the state of mental health we pray that very few fall prey to spell of depression that is taxing and robs you of emotional thunder and that is by no means pieman.
As we started feeling low and went into diminutive hiding given the volley of abuse that we were slapped with showed the gall of the driver whose diktats run large and untamed in a city where there is repeated rain. As we are subjected to this uninterrupted spell of torture at the hands of a driver for the past five years the competition to stay agile has been ruptured given the mandate that he has been showered with that is no less fierce. There is lawlessness in toto and there is no force that can veto.
As we are concerned over plight of farmers across India the channel report on Telangana farmers was truly alarming where the wait for compensation has endured for long and here the State Govt needs to act fast and doling out compensation is not an act of aghast. Telangana Govt is doing well and it needs to seize the moment and give compensation to farmers who are as rich and savior as any human.
Here we would like to extend good wishes to Ms Naomi Osaka, Ms Gauf , Ms Serena Williams and tennis legends across world. Hope other sportspersons sail with enough moments to roll out tale.

Janmashthami Celebrations beamed from Dwarkadhish Temple in Gujarat
Janmashthami Celebrations beamed from Dwarkadhish Temple in Gujarat
We wait for entire year for Janmashtami celebrations from Dwarkadhish Temple in Gujarat that are beamed on Doordarshan Girnar Channel. This time the celebrations were beamed for roughly 15 to 17 minutes. Perhaps a longer duration would be advisable. It has been more than two years since we have not been to Dwarkadhish.
News Channels which have their headquarters away from Gujarat say New Delhi or Mumbai show least interest in sending OB Vans to cover Janmashthami celebrations in Dwarkadhish.
Chandan Mitra Whom We Knew
Chandan Mitra Whom We Knew
Chandan Mitra was a man of varied interest. His flair for writing took him to the sky and he could pen thoughts even in adverse circumstances. Having joined Hindustan Times in 1992 or perhaps earlier than that hundreds of active and budding journos had the golden opportunity to work with him. He was the one who proffered the idea of writing independently and with intuitive skills. When terrorism was at its peak in Punjab he saw to it that reportage in HT was absolute. He constantly cajoled journos to bring the best in them and perform. Perhaps in the '80s he had worked in Times of India and range of other publications before moving to behemoth publication HT.
Having joined HT in November 1993 i had the blessings of working with him and he was open to the idea of i writing in foreign affairs despite being a junior. All stories written by me were not accepted in totality and yet Chandan as he was fondly called saw to it that justice was done to my laborious efforts. As long as he was in HT my stories on foreign affairs got clinically and periodically accepted and i salute the man who gave the ladder to rise. There was stiff resistance from the News Desk and some working in the bureau that how could a sub editor do stories on foreign affairs and Chandan stood his ground that if the story furnished by me had merit it could be published. During range of interactions with him he revealed that i had the potential to be Assistant Editor and that observation was quite laudable from his side. I still remember my tete-a-tete with Australian Foreign Minister on Spratly Islands was too long to be accepted and he sent it for inclusion in the Sunday Supplement. During that period i had been to Tirumala in 1996. On my return i offered Tirumala Prasadam to Chandan and he was more than pleased to accept the same. I can fondly recall that a story on Kyrgyzstan was one he readily accepted and it got published in no time.
He was one journo who could raise raise story from a state of slumber and reach zenith with his writing skills. In June 1996 he moved to the newspaper The Pioneer as full-fledged Editor and dominated the proceedings for over two decades. He even went on to become its owner later. His flamboyant writing skills and his respect to every individual no matter whether he was a person with sober background for instance a labourer or technician or one with erudite background was one that made him special.
