Binay Mama (Dr Binay Mishra) Whom We Knew

Binay Mama (Dr Binay Mishra) Whom We Knew

Born in Basanpatti/Balua Bazar In Bihar  Binay Mama led a life oscillating between hope and brevity. It won't be an understatement to say that moments of melancholy invaded his life but after every dull moment he rose to gain ground. And that was the sum total of confidence that he was blessed with. There were four brothers going by the names Mr Vijay Mishra (Vijay Mama), Binay Mama (Dr Binay Mishra), Mr Sanjay Mishra (Sanjay Mama) and Mr Vikas Mishra (Vikas Mama). Binay Mama adored his parents and that brought spring in his steps. One of the eldest sons of Former Foreign Trade Minister And Former Railway Minister Of India L N Mishra success in the family never got to his head and Binay Mama led a spartan life. His grand mother Bada Ma he had a special liking for her and the ties were encircled with warmth and friendliness. Having studied in Pilani, he pursued medical studies from Rohtak Medical College.

Success greeted him in his academic pursuits and he rose to the occasion as and when time demanded. Married in June 1974 Binay Mama was blessed with a son and daughter. During that time he stayed with his family in 9 Akbar Road In New Delhi. Destiny had other designs and in the early days of January 1975 he lost his adorable father who became victim of nasty elements/ political machinations to say the least. This shock was too much for him and it took years for him to get back to lead a life of certainty and promise. In 1975 itself the entire family shifted base to 4 Krishna Menon Marg (Hastings Road). Binay Mama had been a pillar of strength for his mother who fought hard to keep her children steady and lead a life where expressing gratitude to the almighty for keeping family intact in the '80s and '90s. He had two sisters Bina Jha (Bina Mausi) and Heera Jha (Heera Mausi) whom he adored and wished well for them. The grace shown by Bina Jha and Heera Jha was well appreciated by him and often they would get on with the task of reliving old times. His cousin sister who is my mother Mrs Hemlata Rajhans shared a radiating bonhomie with him and his frequent visits in Old Rajinder Nagar and Safdarjung Enclave pleased us all. When My Mother was pursuing studies from Banasthali Vidyapith In Rajasthan State In India there was a classmate going by the name Hemlata Kanupuria and Binay Mama would often call My Mother by that name. These are occasional reminders that Binay Mama believed in simplicity and affection for all.

Artistic Endeavours

Binay Mama's artistic endeavours won laurels from family and friends and his talent in dishing out sketches every other day was noteworthy. His gardening venture came handy on occasions when life blues almost escorted him. He had a range of friends spread across different fields and occasional banter was all about day to day churning to political slugfest that parties were engaged in. Little is known whether Binay Mama came to House Inauguration Ceremony in Safdarjung Enclave but his other family members including his mother came to bless us all. In 1985 the entire family shifted base to 15 Tilak Marg In New Delhi and stayed there till the fag end of 2001. From 2001 onwards the family has been staying in Yojana Vihar In New Delhi. I had the fortune to meet Binay Mama as and when I visited Krishna Menon Marg and Tilak Marg. When My Father Gouri Shankar Rajhans was appointed India's Ambassador to Laos in 1992 Binay Mama was quite thrilled to hear this and he visited our Safdarjung Enclave House to note that Laos was a landlocked country.

His stint in Railway Hospital was brief but fruitful; his tete-a-tete with former Actor Sunil Dutt during his younger brother Mr Sanjay Mishra's wedding In New Delhi is still fresh in our memories. Binay Mama as well attended his cousin brother Mr Rajiv Mishra's wedding in Samrat Hotel In New Delhi. In his last surviving days his younger brother Mr Vikas Mishra moved heaven and earth to see he stage a comeback. Binay Mama was as well visited by his elder brother Mr Vijay Mishra and younger brother Mr Sanjay Mishra in the medical centre in New Delhi. Binay Mama would be remembered for navigating a life where challenges were met with deft response and showering praise for those who deserved the same. Canvas of opinion would visit him but he was unfettered and the years he was active he courted applause from family and friends. A man of few words and man of talents he took a shot at life with feet firmly on ground.
