Protests against metro fare hike; revolt can emanate from any quarter

Protests against metro fare hike; revolt can emanate from any quarter

There were protests by Delhi University students against metro fare hike on Thursday. Some would say if this hike, which was second time in one year, is not rolled back the Government at the Centre would have to face consequences. A large section of students come from weaker sections and metro is supposed to not dig holes in their pocket. A hike that should not have come in the first place and a ride that should not have carried constraints on a large scale. Both hike and the ride a large number of students and general public can't afford. The findings of a survey suggest that there has been a drop of passengers taking metro after the hike came into effect and you can't attribute this to a large number of holidays in such and such month.  The Central Government should not have illusions about its tenure and terms on which it governs. There could well be a new party with a new arithmetic ( coalition partners) governing at the Centre say three to five to seven years from Now. Even that proposition can prepone if the Central Government goes about its task of governing without listening to anyone. There were series of stories written by many on the need to stay away from bringing a hike in metro fare. But no one listened. There is rampant unemployment across country. This scenario of rampant unemployment has carried on for decades largely due to faulty policies of Con-led government at the Centre in the past followed by NDA which too was not successful to live up to its promises.

Healthcare needs to be given priority; it is TINA factor that is giving you a free run

So much has been written about poor shape of healthcare sector and the downsizing that has come about government provided healthcare that people have no option other than looking at private hospitals which by and large fleece patients. In a poor country like India if you leave your citizens at the mercy of private hospitals it would be nothing but a grave crime committed willingly. What is preventing you from committing a big per cent of GDP towards healthcare? What is preventing you from improving the functioning of Government hospitals across country? What is preventing you from appointing invigilators in Government hospitals across country who would be overseeing the functioning of government hospitals and pointing out shortcomings as and when they notice? If in healthcare you can't make headway then all your talk about achievements here and there is a hogwash. You won the polls in Gujarat by a whisker. Winning polls does not mean that people abide by what all the government says and what it propagates. It's actually There Is No Alternative (TINA) factor at play and that is getting you the dividends on poll table.

Hike to College Professors is unjustified

Is it your arrogance that shows up when you give a hike to College Assistant Professors, Associate Professors and Professors when they are already getting a handsome package? Where was the need to give a hike to College Professors?   Heathcare should have been the top most priority of this Government which assumed office in 2014. What in practice were innumerable visits to different countries with nothing coming on table. The political leadership failed to realise that these different visits to different countries, one has actually lost count of travels abroad in the past three and-a-half years, was a big drain on exchequer. The countries you visited and collaborations you secured won't get you votes; it will only make you receive volley of taunts. Domestic visits by different political leaders across spectrum is too a drain on the exchequer. There should be a limit on those enjoying SPG cover on the number of trips they can make in the country in each year.  There should be a limit on political leaders who traverse across length and breadth of country on public money. Remember the previous government announced setting up of a new pay commission whose declarations would come into effect from such and such date. That did not get them even government employees' votes. The previous Central Government's record led by Cong in office was nothing to write home about. It was all about being dishonest and arrogant.

Newspapers should refrain from full page ads on luxury homes luxury cars; 30 per cent of proceeds from sale to go towards fund meant for building rooms for weaker sections or improving government hospitals

Newspapers are flooded with full page ads on luxury apartments/houses, super rich SUVs and other expensive vehicles. The newspapers fail to understand that those who can afford to move in luxury homes would be a drop in the ocean and can anyone say with surety the money they would be committing towards luxury houses would be white and with no whisper. Publications across cities of India need to refrain from publishing full page ads on luxury homes and luxury cars. If they want to publish such advertisements at least 30 per cent of proceeds from such ads would go towards a fund meant for building houses for weaker sections or towards improving the functioning of government hospitals. That should be made mandatory across country. Besides the business houses which are selling /raising luxury homes should have to ensure that 30 per cent of proceeds from such sale would go towards a fund meant for building homes for weaker sections or improving the functioning of government hospitals. Similarly 30 per cent of proceeds from sale of luxury cars would go towards improving public transport in the country. Similarly those TV Channels displaying luxury homes luxury cars advertisements, at least 30 per cent of proceeds from them would go towards a fund meant for homes for weaker section. You need to rein in TV channels across country because they have enjoyed freedom for long and sensationalise things for a song.

Rein in power brokers
All your eyes and all other political parties eyes are on polls and how it should be won. The number of polls this nation witnesses each year and the number of slanging match that politicos engage in shows the desperation to cling on to power or return to power. A father who is a politico lets his son/daughter enter business and reap huge dividends when the father is in power. That trend should be discouraged at the outset. We have innumerable instances of such power brokers. We have innumerable instances of sports players doing well abroad in different events and they being showered with crores and crores of rupees by different government bodies and state governments. That trend should be discouraged.

Goods and Servics Tax was a noble move. But that should not give you the leeway to dole out bonanza for different sectors. If there is any sector that deserves to be given attention and funds it is healthcare and healthcare alone. If you can't do this it would be better for the govt to put in the papers. The imprint that the stock market leaves is no barometer of success.

Foremost thing to do is to give more emphasis on healthcare in the country and improve the functioning of government hospitals across country. Need to roll back the metro fare hike and need to arrest the trend of giving hike to Professors/ Government servants now and then. Don't let the country sit on a powder keg because revolt can emanate from any quarter.

For political leaders and aspiring political leaders across spectrum this is the message
Stop acting with arrogance stop from being smart. Be truthful to the nation and get the deserving reward. Polls would come and go politicos would come and show; they should not cease to be a force for nation to glow.

Train ride from Ajmer to Jodhpur

Leaving for Jodhpur in India; Meeting KV Students of Naseerabad; Giving Women respect

As i again listen to a song in praise of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Teri Dhoom Hai Khwaja Gali Gali (Khwaja You Are Famous/Known Everywhere) it would be prudent to write about my departure  from Khwaja's place Ajmer. At Ajmer railway station Indore Jodhpur Express comes on Platform 2 at 2.40 pm behind schedule by over half an hour and leaves at 3.07. Gains traction, stops, starts again. Beawar station comes at 4.07. This reminds me of my umpteen bus trips from Nathdwara to Ajmer via Beawar in the past after visiting Lord Shreenathjee temple in Nathdwara. The berths in the vicinity are occupied by Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV) students of Naseerabad in Rajasthan in India going to Jodhpur to participate in a Science Expo. They are accompanied by their Chemistry teacher. They are carrying different projects which they would be putting forward as part of presentation. The junior student happens to be a class 6th boy and rest belong to class 11th. Parul a student talks about peizo instrument which generates electricity.  Parul hails from Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh a place i have visited while coming from Kullu and going towards Shimla. Students speak about area 51 Nevada. Other issues on which they speak is how bullet trains are run and what we all can do for women safety. All of us agree that if we give respect to women outside the women in our homes too would get respect. One student in particular would be giving a presentation on women safety. Women have every right to be healthy and safe.

Honesty is by far the largest and best fest to date

Plastic and the accompanying hazards too figure in with emphasis put by students on Milton P5 bottle which is considered to be the safest one. As for net and its access they were of the view that Jio fi to be run with Jio Sim would be the best option. Some students are born with the narrative  "honesty is the best policy". To be noted Honesty is by far the biggest festival in the entire world; a fest we come across day in and day out. Honesty is something we should invest in on a repeated basis, not deterred by challenges which try to knock your stable and not stale outlook and this would hold one in good stead in future.

As for Kashmir impasse i was of the view that employment generation in disturbed areas like Anantnag, Rajouri, Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Samba, Ganderbal and other places could bring about a sea change in the Valley and the entire State. Once jobs are on offer and with large number of youth developing a liking for them, insurmountable challenges that security forces face would at least begin to fade away. Here i want to emphasise Concessions could be given to business houses who wish to have a presence/establishment in the state, particularly in Kashmir. Opening of educational institutes in the entire state and not just confined to Jammu and they being absorbed (given job) by business houses in different parts of country would be a game changer. Holding of different sports events in Kashmir with active participation of local youth and tapping of local talent for events across world would be helpful as well. Widespread reportage of local talent, those cracking state administrative exams and concessions to residents of the state who wish to visit other parts of India would help to change their outlook. It is a tough task on hand and time consuming but not impossible by any yardstick. How long would it take for peace to return to disturbed areas is hard to guess.

While Jammu houses Vaishnodevi Temple and Jai Mata Di rent the air, Jai Ma would be more appropriate and should be on the lips of devotees. Apart from slokas and hymns, Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra could also be played in the Bhawan area (Vaishnodevi Temple Complex). Pithoos (those carrying luggage) should be placed right at Ban Ganga.

The channels of South India North India which i watch like Raj TV, Raj Digital Plus, Mega TV, Mega 24, Zee Tamil, DD Podhigai beamed from Tamil Nadu, ETV Andhra Pradesh beamed from Andhra, ETV Telugu, Asianet News, Manorama News beamed from Kerala, NDTV beamed from New Delhi, Suvarna Plus beamed from Karnataka, Samaya 24X7 too beamed from Karnataka and not coming for now, the liking for South Indian food and my interactions with North East people in Delhi too figured in the conversation. Our best wishes to students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Naseerabad for their future endeavours. As for CNN and Al Jazeera channels they are not coming and as far as cable operator is concerned the less said about him the better.

Reaching Marwar at 5.25 pm; Taking room in Jalori Gate in Jodhpur

As for train ride, Sighting of Hills is followed by Sendra station at 4.18 which is fairly clean.  At 4.24 a fairly long flyover we come across. The train is in full flow at 4.30. Minutes later spot semi fertile land. Going past Haripur at 4.43. There is an Old man with glasses holding a green flag. Later there is spotting of fertile land for a limited duration. Chandawal comes at 4.55, Bagri Sajjanpur at 4.59. electric poles can be spotted at 5. Sojat Road a fairly clean station comes at 5.06, Bhesana 5.13, Dhreshwar a fairly clean station at 5.16. Marwar comes somewhere around 5.25 and the train leaves from here at 5.45. We are in Jodhpur after 8.20 pm. Since the train has no pantry we settle for snacks procured from Marwar station. In Jodhpur the auto i hail and the hotels i visit in search of rooms seem to suggest the automan has no idea of the place. I visit High Ponte hotel and the room on offer is nothing to write home about. The man at the High Ponte reception desk is kind enough to tell me to try guest houses in the vicinity. I am able to zero in on  Mannu Guest House in Jalori Gate. I happen to meet Mr Amar Singh and Mr Mahipal Singh in Mannu Guest House. The room is spacious and the bathroom clean. As for meals i take it from Priya restaurant in Sojati Gate.

Visiting Pal Balaji Mandir (Temple)

Friday morning take tea from a tea stall near Mannu Guest House. While coming from tea stall i happen to meet Mr Kiran Kumar hailing from Sonepat in Haryana. He is a  Sanskrit teacher in R K College in Jodhpur. Meet Mr Ashok Kumar riding a bicycle who gives directions to Railway Station.  After getting ready i decide to leave for Pal Balaji Temple. Take a mini bus at 9.40 am reach Pal Balaji Temple at 10.03. In the bus i happen to meet a man from Nagpur who has come to visit Jodhpur as a tourist . For him the train ride from Nagpur to Jodhpur took 26 hours. Meet Mr Lalit Kumar in Pal Balaji Mandir. The temple is neat and spacious. After spending some time in the temple i return to bus stand and wait for a bus that would take me to Jalori Gate. Outside temple a man from Jodhpur Sweets is quite helpful and tells me in no time the bus would turn up.

The ride from Pal Balaji Mandir to Jalori Gate

I take bus number 23.
Going past Jaipur Dairy and General Store, Pushtak ka showroom, Chamunda tea stall, Baba Ramdev Paints, Central Bank of India, S.P. 'N' Snack, Chamunda Granite Achal stones, Quality marble and granite, N . S. Garden, HDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Police Thana (Station) Shastri Nagar.
We go past the Smart car wash, Bhati hardware house, Marwar S.C Motors, Mahadev Travel Agency, Shree Krishan Generator, Dungarji matki wala, Balaji Netralaya, M K Travels, Barkatullah Khan Stadium. There are directions for Jaisalmer, Ramdeora, Bombay Motors Chauraha
Further ahead there is Someshwar Mahadev Piao, Bikaner Ke Prashid Rasgulle, Gita Bhawan Marg, Rajasthani Bhojanalaya, Jodhpur Dabbawala Tiffin delivery expert. I happen to meet Mr Ghafoor in the bus. Stay in Ajmer; Visiting Pushkar; Leaving for Jodhpur

Stay in Ajmer; Visiting Pushkar; Leaving for Jodhpur

After visiting Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti Dargah, i return to Hotel Kum Kum Palace and seek Mr Mohammad Azhar's intervention to get the TV in a functioning mode. The room is fairly clean and big enough. Mr Raju is kind enough to serve black tea. I meet Mr Dileep Kumar whose parents came from Pakistan to Agra and he has been staying  in Ajmer for a long time.  Later i head to  railway station to book a train ticket for Jodhpur.  Here in the station i meet Mr Javed from Mumbai who is making enquries about reservation counter. The reservation centre is based in a new complex. It is a big relief for passengers as earlier one had to climb stairs before reaching the reservation centre.

In Hotel Parn Kuti in Udaipur i happen to meet Mr Ganpat Singh who has acidity concerns. I suggest him to take Pan D tablet each morning empty stomach and during the entire day whenever he wishes to have tea he should take black tea with no sugar and milk. Gas- O- Fast (5g sachet) taken in water after meals would do wonders to his stomach and help him to get rid of acidity. When i reached Udaipur railway station to take train for Ajmer on Platform 1 was Gandhinagar Indore Udaipur train. The book store on Platform 1 went by the name K M Agarwal and Sons. Met Mr Hari Lal going to Khajuraho. The refreshment stall on Platform 1 near Baby feeding room serves coffee which is very sweet. Perhaps some improvement could be made to the quality as well. My train leaves at 10.27 pm from Udaipur, reaches Ajmer at 3.23. Bikaner New Delhi Udaipur city train is on platform 4.

Going to Khwaja's Dargah; Visiting Brahma temple in Pushkar

Coming back to stay in Ajmer after taking a shower and collecting writing pad i head to Khwaja's Dargah. There is a session of Qawalli going on in praise of Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.  After a stay for an hour or so i return to hotel. After a while i head to Regency Hotel in Dargah Road to take meals.  In Regency Hotel i have stayed more than a decade ago. Post meals i take a share auto driven by Mr Abdul Bashid from Ajmer railway station for Ajmer bus depot. Mr Bashid is honest enough to charge seven rs for a ride from railway station to bus stand.  I board a bus headed towards Pushkar which leaves at 3.05 and reaches there at 3.35 pm. Mr Manohar Puri gives lift to me to a road from where i can access Brahma temple. To be noted here this is the solitary Brahma temple in the entire world. The temple i am visiting after five to six years. After visiting temple i head to Lord Vishnu temple which reminds me of Lord Venkateswara temple In Tirumala. This temple as well i am visiting after five to six years. Later Mr Surendar Singh is kind enough to give me change.

Returning from Pushkar to Ajmer

Sometime after 6 pm i return to Ajmer. In Kum Kum hotel the veg toast sandwich which is served is something to be relished and remembered for a long time. Next morning i head to Dargah for a brief time. While returning i take tea from Khan and Rashid tea stall which is near Raahat Palace hotel. Here i meet Syed Asad Ali who wishes to know whether i had the opportunity to offer prayers in Dargah and the place from where i come.  I vacate the room around eight am.  Here i meet Mr Kishore brother of Mr Dileep Kumar who happens to be the owner of the hotel. I suggest to both brothers to shed weight and take less of sweet. A brisk walk daily would help them to meet their mission.
I also happen to meet Mr Abdul Khalid who is related to Mr Mohammad Azhar. A little after nine am i visit Dargah and stay for a longer duration. Later i have meals. Half an hour later i leave for railway station only to return to Kum Kum Palace Hotel to collect clothes which i gave for laundry the previous day. I would like to stay in Syed Guest House in Choudher Mohalla Nalla Bazar at some point of time. It is Sanjay the rickshaw man who takes me to railway station.

Reaching Ajmer Station

In Ajmer Station it is porter Mr Manoj Kumar who agrees to carry my bag to the said platform. A slew of announcements are being made for inbound and outbound trains. The train from Jaisalmer to Kothgadam comes on Platform 2. Jodhpur Indore Express comes on Platform 3. Pooja Express from Jammu Tawi to Ajmer behind schedule by five hours. Visiting Fateh Sagar Lake, City Palace in Udaipur; leaving for Ajmer

Visiting Fateh Sagar Lake, City Palace in Udaipur; leaving for Ajmer

At Fateh Sagar lake i happen to meet three boys from Udaipur. Moving ahead there was Mr Kuldeep selling namkeen. Mr Sunil Vaishno at Sunil Tea stall was kind enough to hand over a cup of coffee. The said coffee could bring spring to your steps. Then there was Mr Dhanraj Devasi with camel waiting for customers. There was Krishna Chat Pav bhaji stall and Mansarovar chai and bread pakora stall. A few minutes later i happen to meet Mr Justin Brown from Nagaland.  He along with his family members came from Dimapur to Delhi by train and from Delhi to Udaipur too by train. Mr Justin Brown was delighted to hear from me that people by and large admired northeast people. Then there was Mr Ghansi Ram from Pushkar playing instrument. There was Mr Sanjay working for aquarium.

Need to decongest roads in Delhi

Mr Hargovind Das the elephant mahout. Met Mr Nadeem staying near Fateh Sagar lake and Mr Fergus from England. Mr Saurabh Soni from Uttarakhand working near North Campus Delhi University spoke on the issues bedevilling the National Capital of Delhi and the need to restore the glory of Delhi. There was unanimity on the need to levy surcharge on households having second car/vehicle and need to bring discipline on the roads of Delhi. The large winding traffic was a sight no one would relish and there was a need to decongest the ring roads of Delhi. Both of us agreed that Delhi had excessive pollution and some remedial measures were required at the outset to bring normalcy to the proceedings. Sale of limited number of cars each year and that too through draw of lots would help to keep the traffic trim on the roads of National Capital of Delhi. The rude quotient that Delhi woke up to every day was to do with little awareness among a certain set of people about other places in the country and other parts of the world and how people conducted themselves. The need to bring the northeast people into the mainstream was the need of the hour.
