Journey Through Divided Delhi on NDTV

Journey Through Divided Delhi on NDTV

As i watched Journey Through Divided Delhi on NDTV it was all about Delhi Riots that gripped parts of Delhi with law and order machinery in a state of distress as ever. Delhi was home to riots of unimaginable scale, something not seen in the past three decades. Houses were set on fire, the people were run over and their belongings stolen with cops looking the other way round. This episode of reality check with hosts Mr Sreenivasan Jain and Ms Maria doing all they could do to bring across the message that in these uncertain times harmony should be the topmost priority. They had a fair share of interactions with aggrieved family members who had no place to live, none to share their stories of apathy and ignorance of Delhi cops and living in tents was all they had to content with. Their houses ravaged, their belongings ransacked and minute after minute threats emanating from one community to not return to their place of work/residence were enough telltale blush of horrifying times we are in. There was a tete-a-tete  with Mr Gupta who was a landlord of one politico who had made hate speech.

This episode of reality check was something to watch out for as it tried to trace the antecedents of rioters who largely were goons running wild, loads of them from outside Delhi.

As India's Parliament is set to debate Delhi Riots it should try to fix the responsibility for this set of ruckus witnessed on Delhi streets primarily the lackadaisical attitude shown by authorities who were not prompt enough to respond to distress calls. Members cutting across party lines should speak with no fear or favour as the fault lies at the doorsteps of govt enmeshed with law and order machinery.

Congratulations to NDTV's Ms Nidhi Razdan for winning IPI (International Press Institute) award. Quite appropriately observed that these are testing times for media in India as any story that is conveyed with a determined will and sincerity is seen as an act of anti national. Who is anti national and who is prominent professional only times will tell.
