Why we relish going to Somnath

Why we relish going to Somnath

It is more than mere affection for the reigning Lord in Somnath that endears millions to travel to the pilgrimage centre each year. Once there and settled, the need to get the recitation session complete is overwhelming with minutes turning to hours giving you an aura of invincibility and of a different class. As there are no easy and direct connectivity between the city of Delhi and town of Somnath, the different set of train journeys can really test your patience. Especially the train ride from Ahmedabad to Somnath which can easily be completed under six hours takes over nine hours. Once done and dusted the plains of Somnath beckon you with the Lord easy to reach and easy to access.

As for the weather at this time of the year it is scorching hot with occasional whisper of temperature turning moderate. Three days and three nights with enough spell of convenience brought by long stay in the temple and the remaining hours in the hotel, one is constantly in awe of the Lord and his mesmerising spell.

Wishing well for the Lord and the Sanctum Sanctorum where he resides.

As Somnath trail got over, my next destination was Dwarkadshish, the journey accomplished by train on a lower berth seat with those in the proximity hailing from place like Kakinada and its enduring heat. I would like to take this opportunity to extend greetings to Mr Huda bhai of Nageshwar in Gujarat, Mr Yagnesh Upadhayay and his entire staff in Dwarkadhish like Dhiru bhai, Maharaj bhai, Balram bhai, Mahendar bhai and those whom i came across in distant lands and with no accompanying rants. A word of praise for Jignesh bhai, Batuk bhai and Shyam bhai of Krishna Vijay Tea Centre and Mr Kishore of Anand Novelty. As for weather in Dwarkadhish at this time of the year, it is fairly hot with no signs of heat abating during the entire day. If you wish to travel to Byet Dwarka, vessel is the sole choice as the plan to construct road providing the essential link to Byet Dwarka is in preparation mode with nothing concrete on table. Once this road comes up, Byet Dwarka would be easy to access and even the Lord Hanuman temple which is the sole temple in the world where there are idols of Lord Hanuman and his son popularly known as Hanuman Dandi temple. To access Hanuman Dandi temple, the ride by Chakda is easy on your pocket. The ride is bumpy as there are patches of not well maintained road and once at the temple however little short is your stay, recitation is necessary. Best wishes to Hanuman Dandi Temple and the priest who has affable nature.
